Goods lifts support the movement of stock, equipment and supplies in working buildings. Maintenance needs to account for load patterns, door wear, access and operating hours. TLS supports goods and service lift enquiries, including dumbwaiters; identify whether your lift is approved for goods only or for goods and passengers.
Goods-only is not passenger use
Never use a goods-only lift to carry people. A service lift or dumbwaiter used for food or small items differs from a goods/passenger lift. Provide the rated capacity, equipment description and operating instructions when asking about servicing.
Plan work around the operation
Tell us about delivery windows, busy periods, access restrictions and how goods can move while the lift is unavailable. Restaurants, warehouses and retail premises have different operating constraints. Agree isolation and communication arrangements with the people responsible for the building.
Wear, damage and recurring faults
Report damaged doors, unreliable landing controls, unusual noise or repeated interruptions. Note the conditions when a fault occurs without testing beyond normal authorised operation. Loading practices and physical damage may need attention alongside component repairs.
Compare the maintenance proposal
Check visit frequency, parts and labour inclusions, reporting and call-out arrangements. Keep the service history and independent examination reports available. A servicing visit does not replace a required thorough examination, and repair completion depends on diagnosis and parts availability.
Common questions
Can you discuss dumbwaiter maintenance?
Yes. Include the make, capacity, floors served and any faults in your enquiry so the equipment and required scope can be assessed.
Is a vehicle workshop lift the same service?
No. Vehicle workshop lifting equipment and building goods lifts are different categories. Do not assume support without confirming the exact equipment.
