A platform lift may provide essential step-free access even when used less frequently than a passenger lift. Servicing should reflect the particular equipment, operating instructions and environment. TLS supports platform lift enquiries; provide the make, model and site details so the appropriate maintenance scope can be established.

Identify the equipment

Vertical platforms, enclosed platforms and inclined platforms have different arrangements. Tell us which type is installed, its travel and where it is located. The words wheelchair lift, home lift and platform lift are sometimes used interchangeably, but they do not describe a single equipment specification.

Plan for access continuity

Explain who depends on the lift and whether there is another accessible route. Agree access for servicing and how users will be informed about an outage. A lift being available does not by itself establish that the whole building satisfies accessibility requirements.

Report faults safely

Describe issues with controls, gates, doors, levelling or the alarm without entering restricted areas or bypassing safety devices. If someone is trapped, call rather than send a routine enquiry. Keep the equipment's operating instructions available for authorised users.

Maintenance, examination and records

Keep service records, fault reports and any examination recommendations together. Maintenance is distinct from an independent thorough examination; applicable duties depend on the installation and use. TLS does not carry out LOLER examinations. Ask for servicing and remedial work to be clearly separated in a quotation.

Common questions

Do all platform lifts need the same service frequency?

No. The equipment instructions, usage, condition and environment should inform the agreed maintenance schedule.

Do you also support stairlifts and home lifts?

Yes. TLS also supports stairlifts, home lifts and through-floor lifts. Send the equipment details and site address so we can scope the work and access arrangements.
