A new lift or replacement installation starts with the building and the people using it. TLS provides bespoke lift installation and project management. For an existing building, an early review should establish available space, structural constraints, access needs and the effect of installation work on occupants.
New installation, retrofit or replacement?
New-build projects can plan the lift and surrounding structure together. Retrofit work must consider an existing shaft or a suitable new location. Complete replacement may be appropriate when retained equipment cannot meet the required use; a component-led modernisation may be an alternative where the existing installation remains suitable.
Define the specification before comparing quotations
Describe passenger or goods use, required capacity, floors served, accessibility needs and expected traffic. Shaft dimensions, pit depth, headroom, available power and machine-space arrangements affect equipment selection. Do not assume that a low-headroom or reduced-pit solution is suitable without a site-specific review.
Building work, removal and access
Ask the proposal to identify responsibilities for structural work, electrical supplies, fire interfaces and making good. Where an old lift must be removed, agree the dismantling, handling and disposal scope explicitly. Delivery routes, working hours and alternative access for occupants need to be considered before work begins.
Commissioning and handover
Agree the testing, commissioning, documentation and user handover required for the installation. Clarify the maintenance arrangements after completion and who will hold the operating information and technical records. Programme and price depend on the agreed specification, site conditions and equipment supply.
Common questions
How much does a lift installation cost?
There is no reliable single price for every building. Capacity, travel, shaft work, access and finishes affect the budget. Supply drawings and site information to obtain a scoped quotation.
Can a lift be installed in an existing building?
Potentially, subject to available space, structural assessment, permissions and a suitable specification. A site review is needed before committing to a solution.
