LOLER Examinations, Testing & Remedial Works

Start with the examiner's report

Provide the complete report and identify the lift and site. Preserve the examiner's defect wording, dates and any restrictions on use. If a report requires the lift to be taken out of service, do not treat a quotation request as permission to keep it running.

Agree the repair scope

The work needed depends on the defect and equipment condition. Clarify access, parts, any further investigation and the evidence required after repair. Keep the responsible person and examiner informed where follow-up examination or confirmation is required.

Supplementary testing is a separate activity

TLS provides supplementary lift testing, including testing specified by an independent examiner. Agree the required test, equipment, safe access and reporting scope before work begins. Supplementary testing supports the examiner's assessment; it does not replace an independent thorough examination or its report.

Keep an auditable record

Retain the examination report, agreed remedial scope and completion records together. A maintenance visit or repair invoice does not replace the independent examination report. The duty holder should follow the examiner's requirements and seek clarification when a defect or deadline is unclear.

Can TLS arrange a LOLER examination?

Yes. TLS arranges LOLER thorough examinations through an independent provider. The provider carries out the examination; TLS provides supplementary testing and remedial engineering work, not the independent examination itself.

Can repairs automatically clear every report item?

Do not assume that. Check what evidence or further examination is required with the examiner and keep records of the action taken.
